Our government is letting us down

Published: July 3, 2009

Again, I see Hernando County Commissioner Jim Adkins is on the ball concerning the taxpayers' dollars, as is Commissioner Rose Rocco.

I would suggest in our hard economic times that all county employees agree to a wage freeze. Not only that, either cut their hours or cut their salaries. Maybe both. That would help to prevent layoffs. A half a loaf is better than none. In such hard times, we should all be doing everything we can to keep everyone employed. No raise is better for some than it is for a job to be taken away from their fellow workmates.

We senior citizens are not getting the 1.3 percent raise in 2010. Some are the very ones who fall through the cracks — mostly elderly ladies and all of those whose only income is a Social Security check.

Americans should open their eyes — our government is giving our tax money to the banks and car companies. In turn, car companies are sending our jobs overseas. General Motors laid off tens of thousands of workers and closed numerous dealerships after they got our tax money, all the while sending the very jobs that our government claimed they would save and create. Where to? Mexico. Banks won't lend money unless you have at least a score of about 700.

Where did they send our jobs? To India.

Why don't these foreign countries bail out the banks and car companies?

Government should give all of that bailout money back to us taxpayers.

Please, please do more reading before voting next time. Our government is letting us down.

Remember who claimed that our property taxes and homeowners insurance would fall like a rock.

Well, the only thing that has fallen for me is my standard of living, as has every red-blooded American as well.
