Lowry Park Zoo has it goin' on this summer

TAMPA - Parents magazine has awarded Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo for being the No. 1 Zoo in the U.S. Come and see why during any of these special events.

•Bundaleer is here and so are Koala times. Come to Wallaroo Station and see the new Koala habitat and meet Bundaleer the Queensland koala.

•$5 Day - Sunday, July 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. presented by Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Visit more than 2,000 animals and learn about endangered wildlife for just $5 per person. $5 Day Park & Ride: Free extra parking is available on $5 Day next to the "Tampa Greyhound Track." Watch for posted directional signs. Free shuttles will run continuously from that lot to Zoo's main gate, between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From I-275, take Exit 49 to Bird Street and go one block east. Park in indicated areas.

•Summer Safari Nights - where all rides are free after 5 p.m. and the fun lasts until 8:30 p.m.

The next two nights are Friday, July 24, and Friday, August 14.

•Wazoo - Aug. 1, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. It's about to get a little wild during Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo's 14th annual WaZoo celebration!

Come on down to Lowry Park Zoo for the party of the Summer - WaZoo! There's more than 200 beers and beverages to sample, a brilliant wine garden, and tantalizing selections from Bay Area restaurants, all set to the music from the live entertainment throughout the Zoo. The "Beastly Beverage Club" is back! Keep your cool and buy a ticket to this VIP area - located in the new Safari Lodge - the only air-conditioned space in WaZoo! With tickets to this "club" you'll get VIP treatment with access to restaurants, specialty beers and more located in the Safari Lodge. All proceeds from the event benefit Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo, a 501 9c) (3) not for profit organization.

•Swaptember - Sept. 8-30

The Swaptember reciprocal membership program entitles Zoo Pass holders (with valid ID) to receive free admission to the Florida Aquarium and MOSI for the month of September. MOSI is also offering a 10 percent discount on food and gift purchases with Zoo membership. In turn, members of the Florida Aquarium and MOSI receive free admission to the Zoo during this time

•Zoo Run Run - Check-in at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, race starts 8 a.m., Fun Run starts at 9:15 a.m.

Join Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo for the seventh annual Zoo Run Run, a 5K run that winds through the Zoo and along the scenic Hillsborough River. Children can enter a special "Fun Run" which follows the 5K. Registration cost includes admission to the Zoo for the day for the entrant only. •Fisher-Price PlaySpace Weekend - Sept. 19-20 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Fisher-Price PlaySpace Weekend returns to the Zoo with a super-sized play areafilled with the coolest new toys from Fisher-Price. The event is ideal for kids under 6-years-old and a wild time for the whole family! Activities are free-of-charge with Zoo admission.
