BROOKSVILLE - For the Spring Hill Dixie Angels (ages 9-10) All-Stars, Friday's state tournament opener couldn't have gone much better.

Pitchers Abbey Primavera and Emily Vsetula combined to hold Desoto to zero hits over five innings, leading Spring Hill to a 3-0 victory at Tom Varn Park.

"They've been lockdown all year," Spring Hill Head Coach Glenn Primavera said. "I can count on them anytime to be consistent and keep us in the game. But today they were really dominating with their change-up and fastball."

Abbey Primavera started on the mound and worked the first two innings, striking out four against one walk. Vsetula went the final three frames, permitting two walks and accumulating seven strikeouts.

"I felt good," Abbey Primavera said of her mindset coming in. "I thought we had good confidence. I was pretty sure we'd win."

"I felt like I pitched pretty good," Vsetula said. "I could have done better. I walked two batters."

Primavera helped her own cause with a RBI single in the first inning. Kayley Decotis added a run-scoring fielder's choice later in the frame to build a quick 2-0 edge.

That more than provided enough offense for the duo that took the hill for Spring Hill, a team now one step closer to earning a state crown in this double-elimination tournament.

"That team Desoto is fantastic in the field," Coach Primavera said. "We left eight or ten runners on bases, I wasn't too happy about that. But I think that's more their good play in the field.

"…I love starting off with a win.."
