Is it not enough for President Barack Obama to redistribute our wealth on a national level, but now we have Sonya Jackson who wants to redistribute our students' grades by giving students who don't turn in their homework a 40 percent grade instead of 0 percent.
I was appalled that Superintendent Wayne Alexander thinks it is a good idea to adopt this change.
Let's take a student who is assigned a research paper as 1/3 of his grade for the entire school year. This student selects his subject, goes to the library to check out books, does his research and then spends hours at the computer keying in all his data plus preparing a works cited sheet. He turns his paper in and receives 90 percent.
The student sitting next to him turns in no paper because he has been busy playing video games, snacking and watching television but still gets 40 percent.
For any person to think this is fair is asinine.
Do we want Hernando County to be considered the dumbest county in the state of Florida because of this policy?
I applaud our students who work hard and earn their grades, because they can stand tall and be proud of themselves. The idea of giving a student 40 percent for doing nothing is an insult to our hard-working students and teachers. If the school board adopts this plan, those members who voted for "change" should all be voted out, because they will prove they are as ignorant as the person making this suggestion.
