Bus Routes Could Be Better
In reference to the article in Hernando Today regarding Mr. Adkins wanting to "Park the Bus:"
Perhaps if someone knowledgeable in transportation routing was involved in the planning it would be more effective. Parking the bus is not an option as many people would take advantage of the bus if it was properly routed.
Volunteers and EVS employees from Oak Hill Hospital use this for transportation back and forth to work. Perhaps they have been wise enough to give up their driver's license due to circumstances beyond their control such as illness. Many seniors would avail themselves of this transportation if they didn't have to walk a mile to ride the bus.
There is no way residents in this county can get around other than driving or taking the bus and as many know the routing is awful. Have someone who knows what he or she is doing take a look at the routing and perhaps THE Bus can be made more economical and provide a much needed service to the residents of this county.

Win The War But Lose The Peace
I remember World War II and the American auto industry building planes, tanks, jeeps and arms that were a deciding factor in winning the war.
After 9/11, American auto companies and workers contributed 12 million dollars and 30 new vehicles to the relief effort. BMW, Porsche and Japanese auto companies did not give one cent!
Alabama, whose senator berated U.S. auto companies, gave (his state) $400 million to Japanese and German auto companies to locate in his state.
A Cadillac sells for $40,000 in the U.S., but $100,000 in Japan due to import taxes. The Lexus, if faced with this tax in the U.S., would not see one car in this country.
American auto companies pay health care costs for their employees. German and Japanese governments pay health care costs.
American auto companies and related dealerships and other businesses, such as vendors, employ or support more than 15,000,000 people.
Yes, we won the war and lost the peace.

Donate Whatever You Can To Humane Society
Recently, Joanne Schoch, executive director of the Humane Society of the Nature Coast, wrote about the need for funds to expand the shelter. Due to the lack of much needed extra space, too many beloved pets people part with cannot be accepted at the shelter.
These are pets people do not want to give up. But for lack of a job, foreclosures, moving to smaller apartments where pets are not allowed, these people have to give up their pets. Some are just abandoned anywhere they can or left behind when they move. Imagine being someone's pet for a number of years, then being dumped off somewhere like a bag of garbage.
So, the shelter is in need of extra money to continue its expansion in order to take in more abandoned pets, especially dogs. The shelter has 17 dog kennels now but needs many more. The Humane Society and the SPCA both are no-kill shelters. The last resort for people who have to give up their beloved pets and cannot leave them at these two shelters for lack of space is Animal Services, which euthanizes them after five days. Or worse, abandon them somewhere to fend for themselves, where they can starve, get hit by a car, or - if they are lucky - someone could take them home.
I recently adopted a beautiful 3-year-old gray and white cat which was left at the side entrance on Mobley. He is very well behaved. Imagine being someone's pet for three years and then being dumped off somewhere to fend for yourself.
So please, if you can donate even $5 or $10 it would help. If you have any extra money at all to donate for the welfare of these innocent animals, please do so.
I know that things are tough right now, but it is not the animals' fault. And for all the love they give us, we need to help them as much as we can.
Thank you for your help.
