WEEKI WACHEE - Motorists who drive State Road 550 regularly may want to jot down July 2009 on their calendar.
That's when the construction project for that stretch of road – from U.S. 19 to Shoal Line Boulevard – is scheduled to be completed, County Engineer Charles Mixson said today.
The lanes will be widened to 12 feet, with a 4-foot paved shoulder. At the same time, a water line along the road is being replaced.
The total cost of the road improvement project – including the water line replacement – is $2.45 million.
The Florida Department of Transportation is contributing $627,000 and the rest is county money.
The county awarded the contract to Goodwin Brothers, a local construction firm.
Meanwhile, Mixson said work on micro-paving roads in the Gulf Ridge Park subdivision has been completed.
Micro-paving is a pavement preservation process that applies a thin asphalt overlay to the roadway surface, which makes the road last longer.
Gulf Ridge Park is located just north of Brooksville, off Fort Dade Avenue.
