New Officers Elected

The annual Masaryktown community meeting was held last Sunday at the Community Hall. The slate of new community officers are President Jimmy Sikes, Vice-President Larry Dodson, Secretary Linda Lovelady and Treasurer Athena Sikes, along with board members Ann Hendrix, Angie Pruitt and Niki Levesque and bingo chairman Gene Richards. Big thank yous to the outgoing officers, and good luck to the incoming officers.

Don't forget to call for your appointment for the Life Line Screening to be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located on U.S. 41 adjacent to the new strip mall and Ayers Road. The screening date is Thursday, Jan. 29, and the cost is $139 for the package which includes stroke, vascular disease and heart rhythm screenings. Shoes and socks will be the only clothing you will have to remove. This is sponsored by The Heart Institute at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson. It is a one-day only screening; spaces and time are limited, so call ahead for an appointment at 1-800-395-1801.

Visiting with John Potter for a couple of months are his folks - Frank and Ann Potter from Delmar, N.Y.

Welcome back for a little while to George and Denise Deskins. They have become snowbirds. From October to April, they will reside here, and the rest of the year in Havre-de-Grace in Maryland. They are staying with Denise's mom, Nancy Gonthier of Brooksville. Denise can be reached at the Chatty Patty Beauty Shop, next door to CiCi's Pizza - you can reach her at 597-6922. The Deskins are grandparents of four grandsons, and Denise is hoping really hard that the next grandbaby will be a girl. We'll say a little prayer.

The Holy Trinity Lutheran Church food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon; and weekly, the numbers of those in need increase. This past week, they were able to help 74 needy folks, and are still in constant need of supplies, canned goods, dry milk, dried goods, etc., or monetary donations. They are eternally grateful for all donations. With the donations, they could not continue their assists.

Mark your calendars: A biggie is coming up! The Masaryktown Sweetheart Dance is slated for Friday, Feb. 13, with disc jockey Phil and his "Decades of Tunes." There will be a professional photographer roaming around. BYOB with setups available or bring your own tidbits to chew on. The cost is $5 per person. Act fast, as tickets are limited and are available at the post office or call event coordinator Becky Evans at 352-397-3758. The event will start at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue.

Belated birthday news: Karen Raimondi received, via flowers ordered online, two dozen beautiful, assorted-color tulips in a vase from her daughter Corinne Raimondi who now lives in New Jersey. It brought happy tears to Karen's eyes since tulips have a very special, sentimental meaning to her, especially coming from Corinne.
