NEW PORT RICHEY The Birthplace at Community Hospital will conduct its Childbirth Super-Prep class from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Birthplace located at 5637 Marine Parkway. The super-prep class is a one-day accelerated refresher course, and the fee is $50 per person. Since seating is limited, reservations are required. Community Hospital offers a wide range of family education services to help expectant parents prepare for the upcoming birth of their baby. Community Chatterboxes is a support group to assist individuals suffering from communication deficits (i.e., aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, etc.) as a result of a cerebral vascular accident or other neurological disorders. The group was originally established for outpatients that had been discharged from traditional speech therapy but still wished an outlet to practice and interact with others with the same problems. SPRING HILL SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is seeking volunteers in Hernando County to help seniors in the community as follows:
1. Answer Medicare questions and resolve problems;
2. Make informed choices about their health insurance; 3. Save money on their prescription medications; and
4. Inform them of Medicaid programs for which they may be eligible.
Comprehensive training will be provided free of charge, and mileage expenses will be reimbursed. Basic computer skills are needed, and bilingual persons are encouraged to apply.
SHINE is a statewide program of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, providing free, unbiased counseling to Medicare recipients.

SPRING HILL SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) has opened a new site at the Little Red Schoolhouse located at 1208 Kenlake Ave., off Spring Hill Drive. Trained SHINE volunteers will be available from 11 a.m. to noon every Wednesday. Volunteers will offer information and assistance with Medicare, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare supplemental insurance, Medicaid programs, and prescription assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.
