SPRING HILL - People who live in the Coronado Drive area of Spring Hill have been waiting in their neighborhood for a sidewalk.
Wait no more.
Construction will soon begin on that sidewalk, which will wind from Linden Drive to Aldora Avenue.
And the good news for taxpayers: thanks to an amendment to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) funding agreement, the price tag for the project was reduced from $375,000 to $198,000.
The approximately $176,000 in savings "will go back into our coffers for other projects and sidewalks throughout the county," County Engineer Charles Mixson said.
Mixson said his department said project bids came back lower than anticipated.
County Commission Chairman Dave Russell said the savings will pretty much pay for the cost of the concrete.
In related news:
Because of an agreement with the FDOT, the county will be able to share a computerized database providing information on the traffic signals on state highways.
This shared database allows the county and state to access real-time information on its traffic signals that should result in improved operation.
