Police Pursuit Ends With Power Pole Collision
BROOKSVILLE - An early morning pursuit through the streets surrounding Broad Street ended with a pickup smashing into a power pole on Winter Street, according to a report from the sheriff's office.
A plainclothes deputy in an unmarked car began following the pickup around 2 a.m. Tuesday as it pulled out of a driveway on Nicholas Avenue. He determined the vehicle's tag was reported stolen and requested marked units assist him in pulling it over.
A Brooksville police cruiser was the first to flash its lights at the intersection of Mobley Road and Clinton Boulevard, but the pickup kept going north, the report shows.
Other cars joined in the pursuit as the pickup sped west on Cortez Boulevard until the truck crashed into a light pole at the Winter Street intersection.
The alleged driver, Brittany Gariepy, 20, of Homosassa, fled on foot through The St. Petersburg Times parking lot before she was brought to the ground by a police officer's stun gun, a report states.
County deputies charged her with possession of stolen property; a city police officer charged her with fleeing to elude, resisting arrest without violence and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
