Hernando County Continuum of Care of the Mid Florida Homeless Coalition will hold its monthly meeting from 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Children's Advocacy Center of Hernando at Mid Florida Community Services located at 880 Kennedy Blvd., Brooksville. Plans will be made for the 2009 homeless point-in-time census, which will be held on Jan. 24. Those interested in the prevention of homelessness or assisting those who are homeless are encouraged to attend. Hernando Chapter of Florida Native Plant Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St., off U.S. 41, Brooksville. Eugene Kelly, president of the Florida Native Plant Society, will offer a program that addresses society's role in crafting strategies to preserve, conserve and restore Florida's natural areas and the challenges in the year ahead. Hernando Computer Club will present an Introduction to Computers with Windows Vista, part one of four by Ron Purkhiser (a lecture series for the beginning computer user), at 10 a.m.; Records and Tapes to CD/DVD by Ron Purkhiser at 1 p.m.; and Slide Shows and Movies with Windows Movie Maker by Gray Alexander at 7 p.m., all on Monday, Jan. 5, at the Shriners Club of Hernando County, 13400 Montour St., off Sunshine Grove Road, Brooksville. Hernando Beach Club holds an "open house" Friday night dinner at the club located at 3145 Flamingo Blvd., Hernando Beach. Spring Hill Art League will hold its meeting and demo Monday, Jan. 19, at the United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. A short business meeting will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a live demonstration by self-taught local wildlife artist Valdora Ward. Ward paints on many surfaces including gourds, umbrellas and feathers. She has been a member of the Art league for over 10 years. Weeki Wachee Woodcarvers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Weeki Wachee Senior Center located at the corner of Susan Drive and Toucan Trail, Spring Hill. The club consists of carvers from novices to masters. Members share advice and ideas with whomever might need it. Dessert and coffee will be served. Hernando County Fine Arts Council (HCFAC) is conducting its annual Friends of the Arts membership campaign. Anyone interested in promoting the arts may join at the following levels: student, $10; individual, $20; family, $30; art groups, $75; and advocate, $100. Members will receive a card which can be used for discounts at participating businesses and a monthly newsletter of the upcoming events around the county. Those who contribute $100 or more will receive a signed reproduction of artwork of a member of the Spring Hill Art League. All donations are tax deductible. Contributions will help support the annual art, craft and music festival "Art in the Park," monthly Bandshell Bash concerts, annual Taste of Jazz Festival, Hernando Culture Live TV show, grants to local arts organizations and the new HCFAC program "Artists in Residence" program, in which local artists share their skills with students in Hernando County public school classes. Hernando County AARP Chapter 1026 invites its members to the monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at a local restaurant or hall nearby State Road 50 and Commercial Way in Spring Hill. The Chapter is building its membership toward the goal of performing a significant outreach for the local community. Now numbering more than 100 active members, new members are encouraged to join, with dues of $4 per year. The Chapter provides a forum to discuss senior concerns and has direct connection to the state level Advocacy Team in St. Petersburg. State Clubs
Suncoast Maryland, Delaware and Virginia Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Niko's Restaurant, 6818 U.S. 19, north of Main Street, Port Richey. Illinois Club of Spring Hill will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The program will be presented by David Evangelista. The object of the club is to promote fellowship, social and fraternal activities for former residents of Illinois. Hernando Harmonizers, part of a local Men's Barbershop Harmony Society's Chapter, meets every Monday in the Fellowship Hall of Nativity Lutheran Church located at 6363 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee. Ballroom dance lessons for advanced dancers will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. every Monday at the High Point Community Center located at 12249 Club House Road, off State Road 50, Brooksville. The cost per lesson will be $5 per person. Beginner and intermediate lessons will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday. The cost per lesson will be $5 per person. General dancing will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, and the cost will be $2 per person.

Military/Veterans
VFW Post 10209 holds bingo every Tuesday at the Post located at 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, off Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill.
Doors open at 4 p.m., and early birds begin at 5:45 p.m. Three $250 jackpots will be featured.
Free coffee will be served, and the kitchen will be open for food purchases. The Post is a smoke free building. Also, the Post holds karaoke from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays in the Canteen. Bucket of beer special will be featured. The public is welcome.
Also, the Post will feature live entertainment from 8 to 11 p.m. Fridays in the Canteen. Admission is free of charge.
The kitchen is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday; and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
