SPRING HILL - Hernando County's first baby of 2009 is a four-pound, 14-ounce doll.
Tiny Reshawna Joann Morgan was snug but barely visible under three blankets Thursday afternoon as she peacefully napped in her bassinet.
Reshawna barely whimpered when a nurse lifted her out of the bassinet and into the arms of her mother, Katrina Leonard.
Leonard, 24, of Brooksville, was still sore and exhausted from the 4:06 a.m. Caesarean section, but her smile came naturally as she cradled the baby.
"She's so beautiful," Leonard said as she gave Reshawna a soft kiss.
The new arrival's big sister had just finished visiting when a reporter arrived, along with father, Reggie Morgan. It's already apparent that 4-year-old Rashay is up to the task of caring for little sis, who is 18 1/4 inches long.
"She loves her sister," Leonard said.
This was a surprise pregnancy for Leonard and she had been hoping for a boy. But it was love at first sight for Leonard and her baby.
"It's all good," she said.
