Good Time For Polkas

It's polka time! Regular or hup-sa (that's a polka with a hop in it) for your dancing pleasure from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on March 6 at the Masaryktown Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue. Music for this Polka Family Nite Dance will be provided live from Grammy-nominated band, The Polka Party Express. The band can be heard on radio station WMNF 88.5 FM. Advance tickets are $15 per person; tickets at the door are $20 per person. If you care to dine before the dance, the Masaryktown Community will provide complete dinners of chicken and trimmings or klobasy and sauerkraut with trimmings for a cost of $10 per person. The A.B.C. (Awesome Bead Club) has a new meeting place, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, in the Food Pantry located next door to the church. They meet every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. For information, call the head-beader, Mona at 352-397-3351.

St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will hold itsannual parish mission/retreats March 14-18. Giving the orations this year is Fr. Roderic Petrie O.F.M. (Order of Friars Minors.) Fr. Petrie is a very educated speaker. He grew up in Canastoria, N.Y., and graduated from the University of New York at Albany. After college, he joined the Franciscans of Holy Name Province, has graduate degrees in Spanish and secondary school administration. As a friar, he has been a teacher of modern languages, Novice Master, worked with the homeless and hungry, and spent a year as a hermit in Italy. He is the author of books on St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, The Gospels of Matthew and Mark. Presently, he preaches Parish Missions in English and Spanish with other Friars along the East Coast of the U.S. He will speak at all Masses March 14 (Saturday) at 4:30 p.m.; March 15 (Sunday) at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.; and March 16-18 (Monday through Wednesday) at the 9 a.m. Masses and 7 p.m. Masses. Speedy get-well wishes to Shorty Torres who was in the hospital and his wife Prori Torres, who had surgery on her hand. They are both in Brooksville Regional and are now home recovering.
