BROOKSVILLE - Once a week lawn watering will continue through June 30.
The restriction was renewed Tuesday by the governing board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, known as Swiftmud.
Folks south of Hernando County paid special attention to Tuesday's meeting because Tampa's water supplier wanted to impose tighter restrictions. Instead, the governing board opted to hold off until its next meeting in March before cutting back on car washing and hose watering.
Robyn Felix, spokeswoman for the district, said the only effect of Tuesday's meeting on Hernando County was an extension of the once-a-week watering restriction. The measure was first enacted in January 2007 as Central Florida began its long slide into a drought.
