BROOKSVILLE - The teenager driving the sport utility vehicle that officials say crossed the center line on Powell Road and killed a Hernando sheriff's captain last week is doing better.
Andrew Frank Morris, 16, was upgraded to fair condition on Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Morris was driving his parents' Mitsubishi Montero on Powell Road at about 5:45 a.m. Thursday when he collided head-on with a Crown Victoria driven by Capt. Scott Bierwiler, who was on his way to work, authorities say. Bierwiler, 42, died instantly.
The crash is still under investigation.
Visitation for Bierwiler is set for 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. A Funeral Mass will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at St. Theresa's.
Interment immediately following the Mass at Florida Hills Cemetery, 14354 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill.
