BROOKSVILLE - Hernando County Fine Arts (HCFAC) has recently awarded $1,000 grants to three community organizations; namely, Spring Hill Art League, Hernando Youth Orchestra and Chocachatti Elementary School music department. The grants will be officially presented to representatives of the three groups at the HCFAC meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the county commissioners chamber of Hernando County Courthouse, 20 North Main St.
The annual grants are funded through the state of Florida specialty car tag program. Car owners who request the cultural arts specialty tag pay an additional amount which goes to the art and cultural council of each county to disperse to deserving organizations.
The Spring Hill Art League sponsors an annual art show, gives student scholarships and administers the Art in Public Spaces program. The Hernando Youth Orchestra provides students with experience in playing instruments at many local events and provides instruction and instruments to students in need of financial assistance. Chocachatti Elementary School music department is producing a musical production that is free of charge and open to the public this spring, and the grant will help defray the cost of the production.
