THE Bus Is A Lifeline
I was disappointed to read Hernando County Commissioner James Adkins' statement, "Park THE Bus." He apparently thinks very little of the 1 percent of the people who do use it. Hernando County needs public transportation and instead of canceling it, try to fix it. If you don't, you will have more seniors on the road who shouldn't be and youngsters needing parents to drive them. You will have people like me giving up my volunteering at Oak Hill Hospital for 12 to 16 hours weekly. ADA qualifiers will be forced to pay $2.50, when they could use THE Bus.
Funding from the federal government could be jeopardized. If money is turned back for no need of public transportation, other monies allocated for other projects could be cut back by the government.
THE Bus is a "lifeline" for many seniors and other people who do not drive.
Thank you for letting me vent.

Investigative Reporting Needed
How about some real investigative reporting by Hernando Today and sister Trib?
Citizens wants an increase in insurance premiums. How much is in the program now, or is it diverted to a general fund like Social Security since Lyndon B. Johnson? My insurance went from $800 to almost $1,500 a year, almost a 50 percent jump.
Why is another attorney being hired to oversee the dredging? We already have three or four on the payroll.
What is being done to the CEO or whoever is responsible for paying out $400,000 for a party with our money after the bailout?
Why aren't the banks really loaning money instead of sitting on all that cash bailout?
Your readers want answers, not how much cow flop was collected at the State Fair!
Be a real service, and readership will follow.

Congrats, Rick Ahrens!
I have always heard that education comes in all forms. Last week, I had the opportunity to witness one form of it up close and personal.
With great reluctance, as Gus Guadagnino can attest, I accepted the assignment of being part of a committee to interview 21 teachers - one of whom would be chosen to be Teacher of the Year for Hernando County.
Let me state right now that I was the one who became educated throughout the process.
Never have I seen such loyalty and dedication to a profession than I did in the educational sector. Their passion for their profession came across loud and clear. I walked out of the conference room each evening after interviewing with such pride in what I had just witnessed. Our children and grandchildren are in good hands!
In closing, I want to thank the Hernando County Education Foundation for all they do in recognizing our teachers, whether they have taught two or three years or 30 or 40. Every one of them is so worthy and deserving of the title of Teacher of the Year.
Go, teachers! You are awesome.
