Monday morning, as I approached the intersection of Northcliffe and U.S. 19, several Hernando County sheriff officers had stopped traffic in order to allow the funeral procession for the recently fallen U.S. Army Spc. Justin Coleman.
The procession was proceeded by hundreds of bikers, wishing to pay their respects for this fallen warrior, who gave his life for our country. As the funeral car approached, I got out of my car so that I might salute and pay my respects for this person, who felt he could make a difference in the fight against terrorism.
To my dismay, not one person sitting at the crossroads at Northcliffe and U.S. 19 felt the need to offer their respect for Spc. Coleman.
It is a sad day in our country's history, when the general public would rather sit on their butts in a car, waiting to continue on with their travels, than to pay respect for someone who has been willing to protect their freedoms.
Thank God we have young men like Spc. Coleman who still believe that freedom isn't free.
