Warning periods start for red-light runners

BROOKSVILLE - Two warning periods commenced April 24 for traffic cameras designed to catch red light violators.

One camera is located at W. Jefferson Street and Ponce De Leon Boulevard; the other targets the northbound lanes of Broad Street at Wiscon Road. Anyone who runs the red light at those intersections in the next 30 days will be notified, but not cited.

Another warning period is already in effect for the light at Broad Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. That warning period expires today.
Motorists caught on camera running a red light receive a $125 civil citation, so there are no points added to a driver's license or effect on insurance. Violators can review the evidence against them online and request a hearing if they want to challenge the citation.

Three more cameras will be in place by June 23 at the following intersections: northbound and southbound lanes of State Road 50 and Cobb Road; and the northbound lanes of Broad Street at S.R. 50.

The public will be notified each time a warning period begins with a new camera.
