BROOKSVILLE - At Tuesday's county commission meeting, Utilities Director Joe Stapf will outline an interlocal agreement with Pasco County that would allow the county to deal with its pending trash disposal problem.
The cost of hauling garbage to Pasco would end up costing $56.70 per ton for residential trash, according to a Stapf memo.
The purchasing department is in the process of finalizing bid documents for outside entities (private landfills) to bid on the disposal and transportation of Hernando County garbage.
However, with all the available options, staff is recommending the Pasco pact.
Sumter County has made overtures to the county for accepting the garbage.
However, that county would have to initiate an ordinance change that it would accept out-of-county garbage, according to Stapf. Sumter County is working through that change.
Stapf will also discuss raising solid waste assessment rates from $63.05 to $102. He will ask commissioners to set a public hearing date of June 23 to solicit public comment on the matter.
The county commission meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main St. in downtown Brooksville.
