BROOKSVILLE - A deputy caught three teen-agers smoking marijuana on Tuesday, including one who admitted that he was a "regular pothead."
A deputy on an off-duty detail in Sterling Hills said he approached a red pickup that was parked after hours behind the south clubhouse. The "strong and distinct" odor of burnt marijuana was coming from the truck and the people inside were "very relaxed," a report states.
Each of the occupants was asked to step out of the pickup and was questioned individually. A search of the truck turned up prescription pills and marijuana; the driver, Andrew Neff, 18, and his 17-year-old passenger were charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Another 16-year-old, who described himself as a "regular pothead," was released to his father with no charges.
Son attempts to cash mom's checks, police say
SPRING HILL A Spring Hill man was charged Tuesday with attempting to cash his mother's checks.
A clerk at an Amscot on Spring Hill Drive grew suspicious when the suspect, Adam Price, attempted to cash a check worth $225 on Tuesday. She called Price's mother, who confirmed that she had not written a check out to her son, according to a report.
The phone call apparently made Price nervous and he left the Amscot without his driver's license or the forged check, a report states.
Price, 19, was contacted at home by a deputy and he reportedly admitted to stealing the checks. He was charged with organized fraud.
