Cigarette Taxes Will Increase Today

WASHINGTON D.C. - A steep tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products will go into effect today.
The tax prices alone for cigarettes will jump from 39 cents per pack to $1.01.
Tobacco taxes have been targeted to finance an expansion of health insurance for children in the U.S.
President Obama signed it into law soon after taking office.
Other products, including cigars and smokeless tobacco, also will see large tax increases.
