Head Start Accepting
Applications For 2009-10

Mid-Florida Community Services will be accepting applications for enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year for its Head Start Early Childhood Development Program beginning Monday, April 6. The program is for children that will be 3 to 4 years of age by Sept. 1, 2009. Head Start also serves children with special needs (disabilities). The Head Start Program is a federally funded, income-eligible program that encompasses health, nutrition, education, mental health and disabilities, medical/dental, parent and male involvement, as well as family & community partnerships which support strong, healthy children and families.
The following information is needed to complete an application:
1. Birth Certificate
2. Proof of residency (utility bill)
3. Picture I.D. for parent/guardian
4. Proof of income for parent/guardian for last 12 months or previous calendar year. (W-2, 1040/1040A, TANF, WAGES, SSD/SSI award letter).
5. Documentation of child's disability; IEP, diagnosis, if applicable.
6. Proof of custody, if applicable.
Applications for enrollment will be taken from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; or an appointment can be set up by calling Hernando Head Start, 835 School St., Brooksville, at 352-754-2464.

School Advisory
Council Meetings

Powell Middle School MicroSociety & Performing Arts Center's School Advisory Council (SAC) will meet at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the school's library media center located at 4100 Barclay Ave., Brooksville. West Hernando Middle School's Advisory Council and Title I Committee meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, in the Media Center of the school located at 14325 Ken Austin Parkway, Brooksville. For information, call 352-797-7035 Ext. 256.

SHES To Hold
Kindergarten Round-Up

Spring Hill Elementary School will hold a kindergarten round-up on Wednesday, April 22, in the Media Center of the school located at 600 Roble Ave., Spring Hill. The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. and is being held for the registration of incoming kindergarten students for the 2009-2010 school year. Children eligible to be registered must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009; have a registered birth certificate; proof of physical examination dated on or after Aug. 24, 2008; proof of residency and proof of current immunizations. Gang Workshop
At West Hernando

West Hernando Middle School will conduct a Gang Workshop at 5 p.m. Monday, April 27, in the Media Center of the school located at 14325 Ken Austin Parkway, Brooksville. The workshop will be presented by Deputy Gargano of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Learn what is going on in your neighborhood. Students cannot attend.
