If you sat down an infinite number of chimpanzees in front of an infinite number of typewriters for an infinite period of time along with Frances Earl, one of them would sooner or later accidently type a line that contained some sort of statement of fact or truth; but it wouldn't be Frances! She would still be pounding out line after line of partisan lies, distortions and slander.
For crying out loud, Frances, get a grip! How, by any stretch of your hyperactive imagination, can you possibly place this financial meltdown solely at the feet of the Republicans? Where were you when in April of 2001 when President Bush and other members of his administration warned Congress that Fannie and Freddie were already too big for their britches? The Dems in Congress did nothing!
Where were you in March of 2003 when Sen. John McCain and later that year, Alan Greenspan, again warned of the potentiality of a financial disaster due to the imprudent, loose lending policies of these financial behemoths? Again, our do nothing Democratic Congress, duh, did nothing! In fact, Barney Frank, D-Neverneverland, the chairman of the House's Financial Services Committee, was quoted saying the bloat at Fannie and Freddie was "good for the country!" They were giving the lesser-privileged the opportunity to achieve the "American Dream," henceforth referred to as the "American Nightmare of bankruptcy and foreclosure."
During the last few years there were several Republican attempts to regulate the financial industry, which were met with such utter and complete distain by the "we're in charge" Dems that they were never even brought to a vote! Nevertheless, I am quite sure there is enough blame to go around on both sides of the aisle.
I was particularly amused by your description of Obama acting "in a truly presidential manner." If doing nothing, taking no stand, is acting presidential, then he has been acting presidential for years. Fact is, by that definition, most of the Democrats in Congress led by those nattering nabobs of nincompoopery, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, have also been "presidential," because they haven't done much of anything in the last seven years either! Holy smokes! A Congress of the United States of America with a track record of zero problems solved and a less than 12 percent approval rating! That's inspirational!
Oh, and lest I forget, your stating that Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson seemingly asked for total control of the bailout is illustrative of one of your more creative distortions of fact. Where the heck did that bit of fiction come from? I guess "seemingly" is the operative word there. Let's pay no mind to the fact that there is supposed to be an oversight committee of bipartisan congressmen and nonpartisan financial wizards. And where the heck do you come off knocking McCain for being rich. I thought you "ardent" Democrats liked rich people! Where else would you get the wealth to redistribute to us po' folks?
This whole bailout situation couldn't be more sordid and distasteful for everyone and obviously requires a rapid response lest it spreads. But let's stop and think about that alternative. There go the savings accounts, IRA's and annuities and then what do we old retired folks do? Act calm and deliberate? Seems to me the last two bailouts we did, Chrysler Corporation and the S&L debacle, wound up with the federal government actually coming out ahead.
And finally, Frances, give your gall bladder a rest. Lighten up on the negativity. If you can't say anything nice about Republicans, then try to give us some positive information about Democrats, if you can think of anything other than Obama drives only one car and it's a hybrid.
