BROOKSVILLE - On a seasonably comfortable late Thursday afternoon, both Hernando Christian Academy and Lecanto-Seven Rivers Christian left Brooksville Country Club at Majestic Oaks satisfied.

HCA produced its lowest cumulative round of the season, breaking 200 for the first time. Meanwhile, Seven Rivers broke through for its first win, 188-198.

"I think they played great," HCA Head Coach Dr. Steve Adams said. "I had two really big goals at the beginning of the season. One was that they develop a love of the game and the second was for each person to improve and they are. In the big picture, that's what I'm looking for."

Brett Eastin led the Lions (2-5) with a nine-hole round of 44 across the front nine, followed by Keith McCall with a 46. Brandon Bilsborough added a 53 and Josh Weaver a 55.

Not figuring into the team scoring was Austin Szempruch (65) and Justin Murwin (67).

Seven Rivers (1-6-1) received three rounds in the 40s, with Andrew Gage shooting 42, Nick Serra 44 and Adam Gage 46. Kris Williams' 56 finished off the team score. Austin Johnson shot 57 and Justin Batchelor 59.

After the match, Adams couldn't quite put his finger on why his team had its best day.

"When you're dealing with kids from 13 to 18, it could be the fact they slept well, it could be what they had for lunch," Adams said. "But it's a beautiful day. The course is in beautiful shape. Usually those conditions produce good scores."
