A portion of Mariner Boulevard was shut down for more than three hours Tuesday after a car veered off the road and toppled a power pole, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The car's driver, identified as 32-year-old Travis Brown of Spring Hill, told troopers that he was northbound on Mariner around 9:40 a.m. when he swerved to avoid another car crossing into his lane.
Brown's action caused his car to cross the southbound lanes and smash into a power pole and an unoccupied van parked in a driveway near Killian Street. He was not injured in the wreck.
A northbound Hernando County school bus with two children aboard was passing by and its top struck the downed electric wires. There was no damage to the bus and its passengers were unharmed; the bus was released to continue its route, FHP reported.
There were no immediate charges against Brown.
