INVERNESS - For a time in the second quarter Friday night against Citrus, things did not really look promising Central football coach Cliff Lohrey and his team.
With the Bears coming into the game winless at 0-2 and having trouble sustaining any offense, Central jumped to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Citrus close the margin to 14-10 halfway through the first half.
But while the score at half time remained 14-10, in the third quarter the Bears had the best quarter of the young season as they scored four touchdowns to crush the winless Hurricanes, 41-10.

Waugh's Way

CHS quarterback Dallas Waugh completed 8-of-17 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns while Steven Read caught two of those scoring passes and tailback Austin Forte rushed for 158 yards on 20 carriers and scored a touchdown. All three put up those numbers while only seeing three quarters of action.
"I have a lot of confidence in these guys over there," said Lohrey after the game when asked if at any point he was worried about the outcome. "By far, we didn't play a perfect game, but we were still able to do this tonight. "
"We've talked about it a lot recently," said Lohrey about improving on offense. "We like to spread the ball around because the more weapons you have, the less people can focus on one person."
The Bears defense also had a hand in winning the game. Although Citrus was without star running back Antoin Scriven, the Bears held the Hurricanes to just 75 yards in total offense and forced four turnovers.
"The difference is we came out to play today," said Waugh. "We knew we need to get a win with the big district game we have next week with Ridgewood. We had to get some motivation going for next week."
