Vehicle Tag Renewals Now Available For Two-Year Periods

Published: September 19, 2008

TALLAHASSEE - Floridians now have the option of renewing their vehicle registration for two years instead of one.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced the changes Tuesday; 490,239 people took advantage of the new feature in August, according to a news release.

"... Vehicle owners will still be required to renew their tags by their birthdays, as usual, but those who opt to renew for two years get to skip a year," Carl Ford, director of the Division of Motor Vehicles, said in a prepared statement.
Motorists who opt for the two-year feature will pay for both years in advance. The cost of registration is dependent on the weight of the vehicle, not the value, so there's no advantage in waiting for a vehicle to depreciate another year.

Registration can be renewed online at GoRenew.com.
