Looking For Prosperity
I was walking along the road the other day and found $150.
Wanting to do the right thing, I called my neighbors whom I knew did not have $5 to their name. Of course, I got the desired response. Laughter. Some even wondered aloud what I was drinking or smoking.
Still I wanted to do the right thing. I had been reading and hearing about "prosperity religion" and "prosperity preaching," so I did my homework and concluded that God wanted me to have this money and be prosperous.
According to Sister Paula, for every $5 I send to her, it will be returned 10 fold. Well, that beats the stock market and credit cards. If my figures are correct, I should be out of debt in about 60 years.
So, I am not a Methodist anymore. I am charismatic.
When money is involved, word gets around fast. Within a few days of finding the $150, I got a letter from Alvin Mazourek about my taxes, a letter from State Farm that I needed to pay my house insurance and Withlacoochee Electric sent me a $170 bill.
I have not heard from Juanita Sikes yet, but I am sure the letter is in the mail.
My wife told me flat out she was entitled to half. After some heated debate, it was agreed she would get the $150.
In a matter of a few days, I went from poverty to prosperity and back to poverty.
So if you see me walking along the road, I am looking for more money.
And, no, I am not going to tell you what road I found the money on, because God wants me to have it and be prosperous.

Not Going To
Take It Anymore
Was it the movie "Network" where this famous line came from: "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Well, I'm mad as hell, too.
I'm mad about the state of politics in this country. When did it start to become so mean; when did it become so contentious? When did we all become a Democrat, Republican or an independent and stop being Americans?
I'm tired of "political correctness." I'm tired of the "politics of personal destruction." I'm tired of watching a news program and hearing someone from one political party blaming the crisis of the day on the other political party! How about working together as Americans and correct the problem? We don't care who's at fault; we want it fixed!
Here's a revelation to both political parties: The problems we face in this country today are the fault of both! This current Congress has been named "The Do Nothing Congress" for good reason! It has done nothing about the energy problem, the housing problem, the financial problem, the health care problem or any other problem we have in this country.
Here's another revelation to both parties: Get your acts together or your days in office are numbered. The American people will take just so much before we act. There's enough blame to go around for both political parties, so here's a thought: Stop pointing the fingers of blame and try fixing some of these problems!

Kudos To East
Bob East III deserves the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for his photo of county Public Works Director Charles Mixson, County Engineer Gregg Sutton and resident Cliff Manuel that appeared on the front page of the Sept. 17 edition of Hernando Today.
Their body language says it all, and Bob captured it beautifully!
Sutton is glaring down his nose at Manuel, Mixson is staring off into the distance with a vacant look of disbelief and both men have their arms crossed.
Judging by body language, things don't look good for Cliff Manuel.
Good job, Bob!
