A few weeks ago Frances Earl, Hernando County's curmudgeon-in-chief, used the entire first half of her column trying to convince everyone how intelligent she was. I guess she thought that was necessary because she must have gotten a handle on the majority of the readership's real opinion.
She followed that by filling her next two columns with the most inane, nasty, slanted rhetoric, hearsay and half-truths about Sen. John McCain while screeching repeatedly that being a POW didn't qualify him to be commander in chief. Of course, she didn't mention what might qualify Sen. Barack Obama, probably because she couldn't think of anything.
Obama's resume includes a few years as an "organizer," (we used to call them rabble rousers), a few years in the Illinois political machine, famous for it's ethical purity, where he developed a close personal relationship with a criminal and a terrorist. From there to the Senate, where after spending about 140 working days and sponsoring no legislation or doing anything else of any import, he decided to run for president.
And we shouldn't forget that during all this time, more than 20 years, he was attending a church whose pastor preaches "God damn America," and pure unadulterated hate and racism! Now there's some commander in chief credentials for you!
I can imagine her delight, when she opened the opinion page on Thursday to find herself in the company of the likes of Ted Rall and some poor tortured soul named Garret Hood joining you in a cacophony of bile and vitriol about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin! A veritable glee club from hell.
For me, it conjured up an image of the three of you crouched over a boiling cauldron, cackling up a storm while tossing in eye of newt, wing of bat, stretch of truth, sling of mud and crap of bull, with a generous bundle of misstatement of fact tossed in for extra flavor! Good grief folks, Halloween came early this year ... what a witch hunt! Take a breather! Mind your blood pressure!
Could all this manic frenzy be coming from the realization that Obama is a hollow man; a shell with no inner substance or character? A straw man who will kiss up to our enemies and call it diplomacy in the face of the fact that diplomacy hasn't worked. A deep thinker whose solution to our energy problems is taxing corporations, without realizing that corporations merely pass on the taxes to the consumers of their goods or services. A man who will bring more government intrusion into our lives, inheritance taxes and capital gains taxes. A man who thinks it's necessary to run around Europe apologizing for our being the most successful, kindest most generous country in the world.
And what's his plan for Iraq this week? Are we pulling out immediately or in 16 months? Or maybe we're back to plan "A"; just sitting there waving white flags.
Cheer up Earl, Rall and Hood. Maybe the jihadist and the German votes will be enough to get him elected.
