BROOKSVILLE - Two people were killed and three others hurt in a three-car crash shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday along Shoal Line Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
A sport utility vehicle, driven by Lorrey A. Richard, 21, of Spring Hill, was in the northbound lane of Shoal Line Boulevard and crossed into the southbound lane, into the path of a 2003 Ford van driven by MacKenzie Shipe, 19, of Weeki Wachee, according to an FHP accident report.
After the van and SUV collided, a 1997 Mercury van heading south behind the Ford van, driven by Carri A. Goldstein, 30, of Spring Hill, struck the van after it stopped at the side of the road, troopers said.
Two passengers in the Ford, Bryan Riggs, 23, of Weeki Wachee, and Ashley N. Barnett, 20, of Spring Hill, died at the scene. Their next of kin in Clermont and Ohio were notified Saturday, the FHP said.
Richard is being treated for serious injuries at St. Joseph Hospital. Shipe is being treated for serious injures at Oak Hill Hospital. Goldstein is being treated for serious injuries at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. A passenger in Goldstein's van, Jason C. Goldstein, 34, of Spring Hill, was not hurt, troopers said.
