Oak Hill Hospital announces its Associates of the Month

BROOKSVILLE Oak Hill Hospital has announced its Star Associates of the Month for October. Each month hospital associates are chosen in a process that involves nominations and voting by their peers, patients, patient families and physicians. This month's Oak Hill Hospital "Stars" are Joan Lamp, Brian Hagen and Margita Holop. Lamp is a pathology aide, who assists pathologist with preparing specimens, filing, answering phones and office assistance. Hagen is a technician who specializes in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). He handles the repair and maintenance of the hospital's air-conditioning units. Holop is a patient care assistant, who works on the fourth floor surgical unit.

UPS employee honored for 30 years of service

PORT RICHEY Steve Swaim recently was honored by UPS for completing 30 years of service with the company. Swaim is an on-road supervisor with UPS in Port Richey and was recognized for his loyal service contributions. He began his career in 1978 as a package car driver with the company. Swaim and his wife, Joyce, live in Spring Hill. They have two children – Hope and Amber.

Z Chefs will host ribbon cutting today

AVON is fundraising for the Dawn Center throughout October

SPRING HILL AVON Representatives and owners of AVON Discount Store, located at 3513 Commercial Way in Spring Hill, are taking part in October Awareness Month, a month-long fundraiser for both breast cancer and domestic violence. AVON is the largest corporate supporter of the breast cancer cause. The AVON Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and donated nearly a half-billion dollars worldwide since 1992. AVON representatives help by selling pink-ribbon items and doing the AVON three-day walk (all proceeds go to the foundation). Local AVON representatives, Susan and John Dixon, sell these products all year long to bring awareness to both causes. They have partnered with the Dawn Center, a local women's shelter for domestic violence and sexual abuse. For each domestic violence item AVON sells, it will donate $2 directly to this local shelter as well as selling Purple Wooden roses for $1. Breast Cancer Support Group is Nov. 4

BROOKSVILLE The Florida Cancer Institute–New Hope recently announced it will host a special monthly women's breast cancer support group from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4. The November meeting is a pot luck dinner and your spouse/friend is welcome to attend. This month's meeting will be held at the Christian Life Assembly of God, located at 13065 Jacqueline Road. Oak Hill's Nov. 7 golf tournament will benefit the United Way

SPRING HILL Oak Hill Hospital has announced it will once again hold its annual Oak Hill Hospital Golf Tournament, a four-person scramble to benefit the United Way of Hernando County. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7 and will take place at Silverthorn Country Club, located at 4550 Golf Club Lane. A hole-in-one contest will be sponsored by Rick Matthews Buick, Pontiac, GMC. A hole-in-one during the tournament will win a player a new car. Individual players' fees are $60, which includes the individual registration, player gifts, cart, green fees and lunch. Team sponsorships are $300 and they include four-player registration, program recognition, a plaque with player gifts, a cart, green fees and lunch. A wide range of sponsorships also are available. The rain date is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 and the entry deadline is Oct. 24. The tournament is limited to 144 golfers. Microtel Inn opens in Brooksville

Brooksville Regional recognized by AHA

BROOKSVILLE The American Heart Association recently recognized Brooksville Regional Hospital for its Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program for promoting physical activity and health in the work place. Start! is the association's national initiative to get Americans walking. Most adults spend a majority of their waking hours at work – many in sedentary careers – increasing their risk for medical problems, such as obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes. Brooksville Regional met gold-level standards by offering employees programs to encourage physical activity, increasing healthy eating options and promoting a wellness culture. Nine criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture also were met. Wilson Technology assists Micro Matic during expansion

BROOKSVILLE Wilson Technology Group recently announced it had been selected by Micro Matic USA to assist in the company's expansion and newly constructed 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility at the Hernando County Corporate Airport Park. Wilson Technology was selected by Micro Matic USA to install the high-speed cabling infrastructure and conference audio-visual system. Micro Matic is a Danish company, which employs a European-open environment. The facility has an open design to complement the unique European management style. The project presented a challenge to the Wilson Technology Group technicians who had to find a way to integrate their systems and hard wiring into an open environment so they could appear "invisible." Candlelite Fitness offers water aerobics

BROOKSVILLE Candlelite Fitness Center in Brooksville offers water aerobics classes in its heated pool from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursday. SPRING HILL The Hernando County Home Business Women's Network group meets twice a month. The Spring Hill Chapter meets on the first and third Wednesday and the Brooksville Chapter meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. This is a non-compete group for women who are home-based, own their own store or office and are entrepreneurs. BROOKSVILLE Supporting the Dawn Center is now as simple as shopping online. The Dawn Center recently launched its new online store featuring T-shirts, mugs, stationary and more. At www.cafepress.com/DawnCenter, people can buy items featuring original artwork created by students along with other items that promote the Dawn Center's cause. Proceeds go directly to supporting the vital services offered by Hernando County's domestic and sexual violence center.
