INVERNESS - The first 21 seconds of the game belonged to the Citrus Hurricanes. The next 47 plus minutes, however, were owned by the Nature Coast Sharks.
Nature Coast gave up two big plays early and then spent the rest of the game making Citrus pay for it as the still unbeaten Sharks (7-0) easily dismantled their latest victims 49-14 at the Citrus Bowl Friday night.
The Hurricanes (1-6) Derek Paquette took the opening kickoff and pitched a reverse to freshman J.J. White who carried the ball out to the 46-yardline. On the 'Canes first offensive play from scrimmage they reached in and pulled one last act out of their bag of tricks when a double reverse from running back Antoin Scriven to Paquette surprised the Sharks and allowed Paquette to scamper 54 yards untouched for the quick score.
Nature Coast, however, never blinked and 48 seconds later they tied the game 7-7 when Antwon Story shot straight up the middle for a 71-yard touchdown run.That was the start of 42 unanswered points for the Sharks as they never looked back.
"We knew that they were going to try something and give them credit, they executed the play perfectly," Nature Coast Head Coach Jamie Joyner said. "But from that point on we settled down and took care of business the rest of the way."
Story finished the night with the eight carries for 118 yards and the one touchdown while his backfield partner, Tevin Drake, had 11 carries for 67 yards and three touchdowns.
Nature Coast will host in-county rival Hernando next week in the last home game and final 3A-6 tilt of the year for the Sharks.
