Proven Leaders
To those sexist clods who don't think women have what it takes to run a country - take a long look at the following success stories:
• Cleopatra, queen of Egypt.
• Joan of Arc, heroine of France.
• Tzipi Livine, prime minister of Israel.
• Mary Patricia McAleese, president of Ireland.
• Golda Meir, former prime minister of Israel.
• Dr. Angela Markel, chancellor of Germany.
• Evita Peron, former first lady of Argentina.
• Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland.
• Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister of Great Britain.
• Sarah Palin, Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate.
All these women have a proven track record. There are many, many others. Some were married. Some were mothers. All knew what they were doing, and what they were getting into. I doubt that the same can be said for the sexist people reading this letter.

Balance Needed
For weeks now, I have been reading the letters to the editor in your publication. Up until now I have been able to contain myself, but today, Oct. 19, the letters you chose to publish really made me angry.
Vernon Carles, get your facts straight! Sen. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and is indeed a citizen! That this newspaper chooses to run letters of this sort from people who do not know the simple facts about the candidates is unacceptable.
Usually, you have a pretty good balance of opinions, but today you certainly do not. How about more balanced opinions from now on?

Incorrect Information
There are so many issues and inaccuracies that are allowed to appear in the letters to Hernando Today; they are way too many to address. Some are so blatant, it is ridiculous. A quick research would dispel statements such as Mr. Carles.
Sen. Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii; his actual birth certificate is available on the Internet. Oh, by the way, Sen. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone.

Don't Be Swayed By Polls
Polls, polls, polls. What good are they? Besides trying to sway public opinion , in which the news media does a very fine job, what purpose do they serve besides trying to get people to follow their results as if the masses were following the pied piper?
Any poll can give the results the pollsters want. It all depends on who you interview in your polls.
My personal "Ski Poll" shows Sen. John McCain getting 80 percent of the vote if it were held today. Please look at both candidates equally and fairly and make your own informative decision and do not be swayed by the liberal media and biased polls.
