The big Annual Masaryktown Independence Day Dinner is next Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue. On the menu will be the famous marinated chicken with all the trimmings, Kolace, Czechoslovakian pastry, and coffee - all for $12 per adult plate and $6 for 12 and under plate. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m. There will be nut and poppy seed kolace for sale. The Beseda Dancers will perform the National Beseda Dance in traditional costumes; and for your dancing pleasure, there will be music provided by Mario De Leon after the dinner and program.
If you just want to join the fun of dancing after dinner, you can do so for $6 per person.
St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will have its annual fall bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 2 to 6 p.m.; and on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parish hall. On sale will be many handcrafted items, hot dogs, iced tea, coffee, raffles and a Chinese auction. Come join the fun ... For more information, call 796-2792.
Last week's spaghetti dinner at St. Mary's was a great success. Many thanks to all who attended, helped, especially to the dinner chairman, Mary Ann Martin, administrator of Religious Education, for a job well done.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, at Sylvan Grove Clubhouse, located at 2750 Kingswood Circle, on U.S. 41 south will be a fundraiser barbecue dinner/dance with a live disc jockey, in memory of Bob Leitzel. There will be entertainment by Phil Rafferty, and all proceeds will go to the children's Christmas Fund.
There will be dining and dancing from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Menu includes barbecue sandwich, or hamburger, potato salad, four-bean salad, apple sauce, baked beans, potato chips, soft drink and dessert; all for a donation of $7. The proceeds will go toward 28 families in the community to receive a complete turkey dinner, parents and children, gifts from Santa, and a food basket to take home. If you have any nonperishable items you would care to donate, you can drop them off at the Masaryktown Post Office. This event is sponsored by Slyvan Grove and the Masaryktown Activities Club. Elaine May, former resident, and her children, Selina (who will be 2 on Oct. 22)and Joshua (4-months-old) came for a 10-day visit from Pikesville, N.C. to surprise Lanie's sister Jennifer Lopez on her 30th birthday, Oct. 8. Elaine and the kids are busy visiting old friends and relatives including the Voscinar family.
