Spewing Hate From The Pulpit Breeds Ignorance

Published: October 19, 2008

Wow, I just finished the opinion piece by Don Walton, and I would like to say it must be very hard for you to breathe up there on that pedestal you're sitting on. I don't know how you can call yourself a Christian and spout the rubbish you do.
Homosexuals are not a threat to you or your faith, and God knows that, even if you don't. What I see in your words is no different from those who hate anyone or thing that is different from them. Wake up! Homosexuals do not choose to be who they are, why would anyone choose to be the butt of hate and jokes. Every individual in this country deserves equal rights. To be denied housing or a job because you are gay, I find horrifying.
Homosexuals are not pedophiles. Check the facts. Most pedophiles are heterosexuals. Same-sex couples make great parents. Check the divorce rate in this country; check the single parents and dead beat dads out there. It makes me wonder what other hate you are preaching from God's pulpit. Are you also a racist?

I can't imagine the kind of people who attend your church. Are they naive enough to think that your opinions are the voice of God? If they do, I find that very sad. The God I know is a loving God and wouldn't spew the hate that you do.

Your piece is proof that we, as Americans, can think we've crossed bridges to understanding, but the job is never done. There will always be those in the background who will preach hate, whether it's against homosexuals or religion or race.

I know God forgives you, but I don't think I can.
