Who Is The Real McCain?

Published: October 16, 2008

So many lies – so little time! I am watching, as I write, Sen. John McCain at a rally in Blue Bell, Pa., once again proclaiming that Sen. Barack Obama has proposed a tax increase on all making $42,000, a fact that has been proven to be an outright lie, yet he continues to repeat it.
In fact, Obama has proposed that tax cuts benefiting the rich be rescinded so that the wealthy are taxed more fairly than the cutoff point of $90,000, which now exists. Does it sound fair to any working people that the wealthy are taxed up to $90,000 while the rest of us have taxes based on every dollar we earn? Obama's plan would give the tax breaks, instead, to middle class people, you and me, with an estimated $1,000 tax break.
At another rally, McCain chastised a woman who said she could not trust Obama because he "is an Arab." Sure made it look like McCain was getting religion didn't it? However, his campaign ads continued to implant the idea that Obama was perhaps a Muslim, perhaps a terrorist, perhaps a "dangerous" person, so this was merely a photo-op, not the touch of honor it was intended to display. McCain has hired the Swiftboaters who attacked him unmercifully in 2000 to do the same thing to Obama. So, who is the real McCain — the man who asserts his service to his country is more important than winning this election or a man who wants to win at any cost?
McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin try to portray Obama as connected to Bill Ayers, who was part of a violent group protesting the Vietnam War back in the 1960s, when Obama was an 8-year-old child. Ayers has long since changed his angry image and is now a professor at University of Illinois and a respected member of the community. Obama met Ayers when he was invited to sit on a board dedicated to improving education in the United States and Ayers was a member.
McCain's plans: Offers a $5,000 tax credit per family ($2,500 if single) to buy your health insurance on your own. Problem is the policy you now have through your employer's contribution would cost you about $12,000 to replace and that $5,000 you pay to get your own policy will be taxed as income. This is a huge loss to you and yours and an estimated 20 million citizens would lose health care on the job! Next, at the Oct. 7 debate, McCain suggested a cut to Medicare of $1.3 trillion dollars and said Social Security recipients should "not expect to get what they are getting now." McCain is for privatizing Social Security which, if in effect now, would have brought a huge loss in the recent crash of the markets. Sound good?
McCain proposes buying failing mortgages from the banks at "full face value." So, if you have a mortgage based on the $200,000 you paid for the house, but the home is now devalued at $135,000, the bank would receive the full original amount with no loss, in spite of their negligence in granting the mortgage. This benefits McCain's corporate pals with our tax money and does nothing to help people being made homeless. Thanks to McCain's unfailing support of Bush administration deregulation policies, your IRAs lost $2 trillion dollars as of Oct. 9. Happy retirement guys!
About Palin: Continually questions Obama's loyalty to our country, while her husband, Todd Palin, was until 2002 a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group seeking to secede from the United States. Todd Palin addressed the group on numerous occasions, most recently in 2008, a video being made to promote their agenda, featuring Sarah Palin saying "Keep up the good work."
Sarah Palin questions Obama's minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but fails to mention her spiritual guide, Pastor Muthi from Kenya, Africa, a witch hunter who prayed over Palin seeking to prevent witches from derailing her quest for governor of Alaska. Geez, anybody think maybe Palin has a voodoo doll of Obama and a set of pins? Palin tried to ban books from local library. She claims she was cleared of any unethical abuse of power in recent investigation by 29 Republicans and six Democrats in Alaska — not true, she was found guilty! She has praised building schools "in our neighboring country of Afghanistan" (huh?) while Florida cuts funding for our kids by $17.2 million. Palin hired lobbyist Steven Silver who was a member of "Team Abramoff."
General Petreus agrees with Obama's plan for Iraq/Afghanistan, not McCain's. I'll give this to McCain – he does understand "change" since he changes what he stands for every other day!
