St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, on U.S. 41 two blocks south of County Line Road, will hold a spaghetti and meatball dinner at 5 p.m. today, after the 4 p.m. Mass. The dinner will be held in the Parish Hall and spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, salad, iced tea and coffee will be served for a donation of $6 per plate. Tickets are available today after the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses. For more information, call 796-2792.
Also today at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on U.S. 41 south, from noon to 1:30 p.m., there will be an Octoberfest dinner consisting of bratwurst, cabbage rolls, sauerkraut, German potato salad, rye bread, dessert and beverages. Donations of $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 years old or younger, or a family plan $20 (two adult and two children.) Proceeds go to the Food Pantry.
Next Sunday, Oct. 12, St. Vincent DePaul will hold its food drive. Canisters will be outside in front of the church.
Belated Rosh Hashanah greetings for year 5769 to our many religious friends who observe this holiday.
Last Saturday, Virginia Ver and Adrian St. Clair enjoyed a "Star's Luau" held at the Hernando Beach Club. The Stars is an organization of conservative Republican women who hosted this fundraiser. More than 200 people were in attendance in the suggested dress of Hawaiian casual, catered by Mallie Kyla's. On the menu were appetizers of shrimp kanai channel, etc., puui pork, Pacific sunset salmon, big island rice, lanai salad, vegetables ala pahaia, enchanted evening dessert, island ice tea and Kona coffee.
There was a steel drum combo, a Lucky Lai Gem Surprise and 20 items were auctioned. This fundraiser was held to help elect Republican candidates - from the local courthouse to the White House. Some candidates attending were Robert Schenck, Sheriff Richard Nugent, Shirley Anderson, Jane Atkins and Karen Nicolai. This event was overseen by Committee Chair Mary Ann Hogan.
On Oct. 17, at the Masaryktown Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue, the West Hernando Athletic League for Seniors and the Masaryktown Activities Club will hold an adult Halloween dinner dance and costume party, starting at 5 p.m. with a cocktail hour. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. with either roast beef or chicken.
Tickets are $30 per couple. Anyone wishing to stay for the dance after 7 p.m. can do so for $5. There will be a cash bar. For more information, call 352-442-0777 or 796-7034.
On Oct. 19, at the Masaryktown Community Hall, the Artists Gardens and Stable will hold a fashion show fundraiser. The Artists Gardens and Stable helps mentally challenged adults at two locations. One is located on Psenka Street and the other on County Line Road. "Fashion Thru The Decades" will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $5. Clothing modeled will be available for purchase. A disc jockey will provide music from the '30s, '40s and '50s. There will be light refreshments, raffles and door prizes.
