Sharks Roll To 2-0

NEW PORT RICHEY - For the fourth time in this young basketball season, including the preseason, the Nature Coast Technical Sharks got balanced scoring and rebounding.
Friday night they defeated Clearwater Central Catholic, 50-42, in the opening round of the Beef 'O' Brady's Thanksgiving Tournament held at River Ridge High School.
After opening the game trailing the Marauders 7-4, the 2-0 Sharks went on a 16-point scoring run to easily pull away and advance to Saturday night's final against the winner of the Northside Christian-River Ridge game played late Friday.
The game was delayed 1:20 because the referees did not arrive on time.
Nature Coast Head Coach David Pisarcik thought his team did well in out-rebounding and out-playing the 0-1 CCC team.
"We started off in a 2-3 zone and made adjustments at halftime, but the guys played hard," Pisarcik said.
"We got up big early on them and then CCC came back. But then in the third quarter Jake Meier hit three three-pointers and we handled their press and did a good job rebounding."
Mike Adams led the Sharks in the first half by scoring all 14 points of his points, leading his team to 27-23 advantage at the half.
Then in the third quarter, Meier hit his trio of treys and a driving lay-up as Nature Coast increased the lead to 10 at the end of three quarters and by as much as 17 late in the final period.
The Sharks had three players in double figures. Adams chipped in seven rebounds while Meier added 13 points and Mike Fields had 10 points and five rebounds.
CCC was led by Paul Freedman, who had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.
"That guy is really good inside, but we did a good job defending them," said Pisarcik. "CCC tried to take Mike (Adams) away from scoring in the second half, but that's tough to do. But we had other players step up and play well tonight."
