Brooksville Man Dies Following Sunday Accident

BROOKSVILLE - Two collisions were reported Sunday within two hours of each other.

The first one resulted in one fatality and one critical injury. The second resulted in a man being thrown from his motorcycle, troopers said.

The motorcyclist was in serious condition as of Sunday night.

Eldon L. Drier, 79, of Brooksville, was traveling northbound at 11:30 a.m. along Howell Avenue near the intersection of Lark Avenue. His 1993 Buick sedan swerved across the center line of the roadway and struck a 2005 Lincoln sedan traveling southbound, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gustav Vossberg, 82, of Inverness, was driving the Lincoln. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition, troopers said. His passenger, Norma Vossberg, 79, received minor injuries and was treated at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Drier also was taken to Brooksville Regional, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to an FHP accident report.

Approximately two hours later, Robert L. Borden, 66, of Hudson, was riding his 2001 Honda motorcycle eastbound along County Line Road when it struck the rear of a 2002 Jeep sport utility vehicle, troopers said.

The Jeep, driven by Jody Hernandez, 53, of Spring Hill, was approaching the intersection of Oak Chase Boulevard and was about to make a left turn, according to the accident report.
Borden lost control of his motorcycle, struck the right rear of the Jeep and traveled off the road onto the south shoulder, troopers said.

Borden, who was thrown from his vehicle, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the report.

Hernandez suffered no injuries, troopers said.
