BROOKSVILLE - Are the Sharks playing Williston, or not?

The news emanating Tuesday afternoon from the Florida High School Athletic Association offices in Gainesville on the fate of Nature Coast Technical's post-season fate was simple: There was no official word.

On Tuesday, FHSSA representative Laurel Ring, told two members of the media regarding the NCT investigation, "A decision has been reached. I'll send a package over with the results."

A few minutes later, an e-mail stated, "Hi guys... I apologize, but it appears I misunderstood the timing of the decision. It will be announced at noon tomorrow. I am sorry for the inconvenience."

All quiet of the Western front

So the plight of whether the Class 3A, District 6 Champion Sharks (9-1) will tangle against the Class 3A-5 runner-up Williston Red Devils (6-4) in the Region II quarterfinal Friday at Shark Tank Stadium remains unresolved.

NCT Principal Tizzy Schoelles said business was usual on campus Tuesday.

But like everyone else connected to the Sharks' program, the waiting game is part of the process.

"No, I have not heard a word yet from the FHSAA," said Schoelles, in her sixth year at NCT. "I do not know of any decision. Our kids are practicing for Williston. Until we hear otherwise, we're preparing for a playoff game on Friday night."
