SPRING HILL - Deputies took a man to the emergency room Wednesday after a glass pipe commonly used for smoking drugs reportedly broke inside the suspect's rectum.
Shannon Schenck, 36, was pulled over around 1 a.m. on Mariner Boulevard after a deputy said the tag light was out on Schenck's Ford pickup. The suspect was arrested after he handed the deputy a driver's license with the last three numbers erased and filled in with blue ink, a report shows.
As the deputy escorted Schenck to his patrol car, he noticed the suspect was walking with his knees together, as if he was hiding something in his groin, a report shows. The deputy did a more thorough search over Schenck's clothing and said he felt something hard in the area of the suspect's buttocks, but Schenck wouldn't say what it was, a report states.
En route to the jail, the deputy noticed that Schenck was sweating profusely and appeared to be "in a lot of discomfort," a report shows. About six miles west of the jail, there was a sound of glass banging on metal, so the deputy pulled over to check on Schenck.
As the deputy removed Schenck from the car, he reportedly noticed an eight-inch long glass pipe protruding from Schenck's waistband that was covered in what looked like fecal matter and blood. The pipe was placed into evidence and they continued on to the jail, where corrections officers told the deputy to take Schenck to the hospital.
As hospital staff performed X-rays to ensure nothing else was hidden in the suspect's rectum. Schenck was medically cleared and taken back to the jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a fictitious identification.
