SPRING HILL - A Spring Hill teenager was killed in a two-car collision while driving home from theater rehearsal Monday night.
Alessandra Augello, 17, was driving east on Hudson Avenue in Pasco County, west of Hays Road, when another car veered into her lane and struck her car around 7:15 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The impact also killed the other driver, Alyssa Annmarie Dyer, 19, of Hudson.
"They both pretty much died immediately," said Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins.
Both teens were wearing their seat belts but the combined100 mph force of the impact was too great, he said.
Records show Augello, who went by "Ally," lived with her family on Dan River Drive, a few blocks north of the Pasco County line. A man who identified himself as a close family friend told a reporter that Augello's parents did not want to comment at this time.
News of Augello's death struck hard at Bishop McLaughlin High School in Pasco County, where she was an "enthusiastic and energetic" senior, said Principal Sarah Regan.
Augello had a role in the school's fall theater production of the "Odd Couple" and was returning home from play practice at the time of the crash, Regan said.
The school began its day with a special prayer for Augello and was expected to end classes Tuesday with another vigil in the auditorium, Regan said.
"It's really tough here," Regan said.
