Buccaneers tab HCA's Raley as Coach of the Week

TAMPA - Hernando Christian Academy's second-year Head Coach Dave Raley has been named the Buccaneers Coach of the Week for Week 9 of the 2008 season. Buccaneers Head Coach Jon Gruden will present Raley with a certificate and a personalized football following next Wednesday morning's practice at One Buccaneer Place. Prior to the practice, Raley and guests will tour the team's state-of-the-art training facility. The coach will receive $1,000 for his high school football program and be featured on www.buccaneers.com.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Hernando Christian Academy Lions defeated the Canterbury Crusaders 26-24, finishing the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record for the first time in school history.
Under Raley's guidance, the Lions became only the second program in Hernando County history to complete the regular season undefeated and the first since 1949, when Hernando High School finished the year unbeaten. The Lions have clinched the Sunshine State Athletic Conference Southern Division and will play for the conference title against Mount Dora Bible High School on Nov. 15.
The Buccaneers will honor 10 high school coaches from West Central and Central Florida during this year's prep football season. A Coach of the Year, who receives an additional $1,000 for his football program, will be selected from the 10 weekly winners at the end of the season.
The Buccaneers and National Football League's Coach of the Week program aids in the development of youth football, which has a positive influence on young athletes and the communities in which they live.

Cops vs. Kids Fundraiser set Nov. 20

BROOKSVILLE – A Cops vs. Kids fundraiser will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Central High School gymnasium. The money that will be raised will go to the families of Summer Moll, Kaitlyn Harper, Jenna Moran and the Fox Chapel Middle School's Project Wisdom Program.
Fox Chapel Middle School students have chosen to play for Summer Moll.
Moll is a 4-year-old little girl who is recovering from a tragic DUI accident that took her mother's life last month on the Lee Roy Selmon Cross Town Express Way in Brandon.
In an effort to keep some of the proceeds local, we have invited West Hernando Middle School and Central High School to participate as they have also recently lost two of their students to vehicle accidents.
West Hernando students will play for Kaitlyn Sue Harper. Harper was hit by a truck and killed while at her bus stop on California Street earlier this school year.
Central High students will be playing for Jenna Moran. Moran was a student at CHS, who lost her life after being involved in a car crash while driving home from school on Hexam Road last month.
As in years past, the deputies will be playing to raise money for the Project Wisdom program at Fox Chapel Middle School. This program encourages kids to make positive choices every day. Kids that make a positive difference are nominated as the Project Wisdom Student of the Month and have an opportunity to attend a special event at the end of the school year.
All the proceeds from this event will be split between the four causes. The money for the three victims will go to assist the families with their financial needs as a result of their loved ones tragic accidents. The funds for Project Wisdom will go towards funding the end of the year special event.
