Move On

Re: Kali Kingsley's letter in the Nov. 6 edition of Hernando Today.

She needs to stop being disappointed because the residents of Hernando County don't see her father as she does. Everyone sees their own father that way, and there is no room to do so for other people. Fathers need us to make them No. 1. They aren't willing to be shared.

Chris Kingsley had his day on the commission. In my honest opinion, it's time for him to move on and let someone else trash up the place for a change. He can always run a third time. There is no term limits for them, even though there should be. When he successfully ran again, why didn't his daughter come out and thank the residents?

I remember when Chris Kingsley's daughter wrote a letter to the editor six years ago. The only thing that I remember about it was that she was disappointed in the residents like she is now. Nothing lasts forever and I am so glad it also applies to people who are in politics, because if they got to stay in office as long as they wanted, the dictatorship we have today would be uglier yet.

Fear And Smear

It hasn't been three days since Barack Obama was elected our new president and already the Republican "fear and smear" machine is hard at work.

In the Hernando Today dated Nov. 7 on page A6 is a very offensive "cartoon" saying how the illegal immigrants from Mexico, the European Union, al-Qaida, detainees in Guantanamo and the leader of Iran "sure as hell" won on Tuesday. That, to me, is very offensive!

Where were you and your paper when Bush was screwing up our Constitution, our civil rights and the illegal and immoral war in Iraq?

Obama is a very caring, sensitive, intelligent and moral man. None of these qualities have ever found a home in the mind or spirit of George W. Bush and his neo-conservative cronies.

I realize this paper is run by right-leaning Republicans and you probably find my concerns to be humorous. Well, I don't find your "cartoons" humorous at all.

Perhaps, in the future, you should consider that about half of your readers don't share your political views.

Write-In Space Needed

For some time now, I've had a question that no one wants to bother to answer. I wrote the Supervisor of Elections for Hernando County, and I've also emailed Florida's Secretary of State. Not surprisingly, I never received any answer.

Maybe one of your readers, a person out there who has more time than the people we apparently work for. I'm referring to government for the government, elected officials who do not.

Here's my question. Why doesn't a ballot have a write in place when voting for county commissioners? Without it, in many cases, people are being forced to vote for individuals they do not want. If you want to maintain your homestead exemption, you have to submit a completely filled out ballot. I realize that in America, freedom of choice is becoming extinct, especially on the county level. What's next?

Maybe I should shut up, and stay in line?

Self-Centered And Stupid

Barney Frank, a Democrat, was re-elected. Remember him? He led the committees that refused to put greater oversight on Fannie and Freddie and almost single handedly gave us the financial mess we have now. His homosexual lover ran an escort service out of his home. His other lover was Herb Moses, who was Fannie Mae's assistant director for product initiatives. Cozy, huh?

John Murtha, a Democrat, was re-elected. Remember him? He called our soldiers murderers (all were vindicated and Murtha never apologized). He also called his own state residents racists and rednecks.

Al Franken, a Democrat, a gross, vile, sick and perverted comedian, got almost as many votes as his opponent. It's in re-count now.

Californians, mostly Democrat, faced with the largest budget deficit ever, faced with impending cuts in service and faced with large increases in their sales tax to make up for the deficit vote to spend $10 billion on a rail system.

Robert Wexler, a Democrat who does not even own a home in Florida, gets re-elected as a Congressman.

Alcee Hastings, a Democrat, was re-elected. He threatened his opponent with harm for pointing out Hastings was disgraced by having been impeached by Congress for bribery and perjury. He also made comments alleging racism by Sarah Palin.

William Jefferson, a Democrat, was re-elected. Remember him? He was caught by the FBI with $90,000 in cash in his freezer and members of his family have been indicted on a variety of charges.

In Massachusetts, sometimes called "Taxachusetts" for its larcenous tax rates, residents voted down a measure to get rid of their income tax.

Last but not least, Americans voted Barack Obama, a Democrat, into office of the president who had no experience (unless you count voting "present" 132 times as experience), who hung out with a racist pastor for 20 years, who had close associations with a domestic terrorist and who just promised us "hope and change."

Who were those "people" who voted for him? Seventy percent of single women. Seventy percent of Jews. About 98 percent of blacks (but they're not called racist when they don't vote for a white candidate whereas the reverse was said many times by the sycophantic Main Stream Media before the election.)

Finally, in Alaska, Ted Stevens, the lone Republican, looks like he might win re-election after having been found guilty of assorted crimes.

There you have it. In almost every one of these cases, American voters placed their desire for pork and federal bailouts, handouts, welfare, etc. ahead of the good of the country. In my book, that makes them greedy, egotistical, self-centered - and stupid.
