Grow House Operators Choose Drug Court
BROOKSVILLE - Two men accused of having a hand in a marijuana grow house opted for drug treatment over trial on Thursday.
Sean Donahue, 27 and Shawn Finnegan, 32, qualified and chose drug offender pre-trial intervention, a probation of sorts that avoids criminal conviction in favor of drug counseling and community service.
Detectives serving a search warrant at 12271 Eakin St. on Jan. 24 reported the discovery of 65 marijuana plants growing inside the house.
There were also two shoeboxes half full of marijuana in the kitchen, along with drug paraphernalia, scales and plastic bags, an affidavit states.
Donahue told deputies at the time that he rented the house to Finnegan but denied any knowledge of a grow operation, an affidavit states. Donahue was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Finnegan was charged with the same.
Investigation Continues Into Deputy-Involved Shooting
TAMPA - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues to investigate a deputy-involved shooting that killed a 36-year-old Spring Hill man.
Trena Reddick, spokeswoman, had nothing new to report Thursday about the investigation into the Oct. 21 shooting of Luis Guillen.
The deputy involved, Lance Origon, is on light duty pending the outcome of the investigation, Sgt. Donna Black, sheriff's spokeswoman, said Thursday.
Origon was on his way to investigate a call about a shot fired on Gifford Road when he saw a bicyclist who matched the suspect's description pedaling east on Elgin Boulevard, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy pulled over to talk to the bicyclist, but Guillen walked away and refused to show his hands, investigators say. When he turned and made a motion for his waistband, Origon shot him, investigators say.
Third Victim In Shady Hills Shooting Continues Unidentified
SPRING HILL - A home invasion that ended in deadly gunfire remains under investigation by Pasco County authorities.
Investigators say someone broke into the home at 18236 Oxenham Ave. in Shady Hills around 5 a.m. on Oct. 16. Shots were fired, wounding Kenneth Evans, 25, and killing his cousin, Cory Evans, 21.
A third person who is a possible suspect was also injured and remains under treatment at a Tampa hospital.
That person has yet to be identified because it could tip off other possible suspects and cause a flight risk, said Kevin Doll, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
"My detectives are tight-lipped about it," Doll said.
