Drug Paraphernalia Or Art Project?

SPRING HILL - A Spring Hill woman arrested on drug charges Saturday evening claimed the syringe deputies found in her purse - next to the glass pipe with the white residue - was for an art project, a report states.

Deputies were at 4274 Candle Ave. to serve a felony warrant on Melissa Pelham. While at the house, deputies encountered Pelham's friend, Jennifer Kotula, who allowed deputies to search her pocketbook, a report states.

Deputy Julio Tagliani said he found a glass pipe with white residue inside, pieces of gauze with spots of blood, a syringe and a small torch. Kotula, 25, of 16551 Lawless Road, explained that she squirted ink out of the syringe as an art project and that she had the torch because she was learning how to blow glass, a report states.

Deputies didn't believe her and charged her with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputy Kenneth Van Tassel found the suspect, Tammy Leroy, 46, of 4341 Millwood Drive, in the theater parking lot after another deputy had pulled her over. Van Tassel determined that Leroy was under the influence and took her to the county jail, where she reportedly blew a blood alcohol level of .241 and .228. Florida law presumes intoxication at .08.
