Czechoslovak Independence Day Celebration A Success

The annual rummage/treasures and bake sale at St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will be held Friday, Nov. 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to noon. Donations for this three-day event will be accepted today through Thursday, Nov. 6, and can be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the church.

Big thank yous to everyone on another successful Independence Day dinner and dance last Sunday at the Community Hall.

The blessing and welcome to guests was given by President Gene Richards. Everyone attending pledged to the American flag. Jason Yungmann sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," Sona Hucko sang the Czech anthem "Kde Domov Moj," and the Slovak anthem "Nad Tatrou Sa Blyska;" and Morgin Ciarcia sang "God Bless America." Dancing the Beseda, the Czechoslovak national folk dance, were John and Sam Hlavac, James and Susan Carter, Keith and Michelle Alexsuk, Timothy Carter and Morgin Ciarcia. Directors were Sidney Romine and Linda Lovelady. The "Ye Olde Model A Club" displayed their cars.

Special thanks go to Millie Otruba, George and Anna Placko and Janet Yungmann-Barkalow for their organization and preparation of the dinner. Also thanks to everyone who helped in many different ways. Most especially, we thank everyone who came and enjoyed this special, joyful event. Can't wait to see you next year!

The Sylvan Grove Clubhouse, 2150 Kingswood Circle, on from 1:30 to p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 will have a fresh, homemade baked goods fundraiser to be held during their regularly scheduled bingo. The clubhouse is a nonsmoking facility. Twenty-eight families will be treated to a complete turkey dinner on the premises, gifts from Santa, and a food basket to take home on Saturday, Dec. 6. If you would like to donate nonperishable items for the baskets, you may do so by dropping them off at the Sylvan Grove Clubhouse or at the Masaryktown Post Office. For details, call 796-8397.
Miss Donna and all the other good folks at Camper's Holiday are still trying to mail 25 boxes a month to our troops overseas. They need everything and anything, plus more. They now try to reach four hospitals, three combat stress outposts (which are like clinics) and other places as well. Please note, there are a lot of children in these areas that need, especially in the hospitals. Besides the many needs they have, you've read here before - this year - if you could write a Christmas card or many to the effect of - "Hi serviceperson, thanks for being over there, all that you do, we wish you many blessings and Happy Holidays" - something like that. These cards will be included in the packages, and their last big boxes will be sent off at the end of November. These cards and other donations can be dropped off at Camper's Holiday on Culbreath Road in care of Donna, or at the Masaryktown Post Office, see Niki.

Recently visiting with Viola Thomas were her son Paul Thomas and his wife Cindy from Colorado Springs, Colo. It was a short but enjoyable visit.

Violet Cimbora has returned from visiting with her daughter, Pat Boyd, Pat's son and Violet's grandson Robbie and his wife Alice and their four children - Heather, age 16; Marena, 14; James, 12; and 1-year-old Paige, in Rutherfordton, N.C. Pat, children and grandchildren all reside there now; soon-to-be joined by Pat's hubby Bob, who is still here.
