Brooksville City Council, Seat 3.
Pugh for City Council Again
Mayor David Pugh has been challenged by two other candidates for Brooksville City Council. Yvette Taylor, a member of the Brooksville Housing Authority Board and a dispatcher at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, and Cecil Davis IV, who owns Cecil Davis Enterprises Inc. We salute both of these candidates for their willingness to serve and their interest in serving the city of Brooksville.
However, we recommend Pugh, who in his tenure as mayor has worked with the rest of the council to hire a new city manager who seems to be very effective. We agree that some of the processes the city of Brooksville has gone through in recent years have been painful, and some of Pugh's decisions were controversial. However, the city seems to have worked through this difficult time and is now on a path to making progress.
We believe the city relationship with the county is better than it has been in years and that the synergy between the current council members is working well.
Hernando Today recommends Pugh for Brooksville City Council.

Recommendation: A "Yes" vote.
Amendment No. 3: Will exempt from assessed value of residential homes improvements made to protect property from wind damage and installation of a new renewable energy source device.
Recommendation: A "Yes" vote.
Amendment No. 4: Allows for tax exemption of real property that is perpetually used for conservation.

Amendment No. 6: Provides for the assessment of specified waterfront properties on current use rather than highest and best use.
Recommendation: A "Yes" vote.
Amendment No. 8: Community College funding. Would authorize local option sales tax by local referendum to supplement funding for community colleges. Tax would sunset after 5 years.
Recommendation: A "No" vote. This could lead to the same problem when the Lottery money only replaced state tax money and did not enhance the funding to education. Community college funding is a state responsibility.
