BROOKSVILLE - The developer of a mixed-use development on Wiscon Road is asking for more time to pay impact fees to the city.
Sea Gate Development owes the city a little more than $158,000 for a down payment on some $791,000 in water and sewer impact fees for a 77-acre project south of Wiscon, just west of Lowes, according to a memo from the city's public works director to City Manager Jennene Norman-Dacha.
Sea Gate also seeks to pay the down payment in six installments, with the first payment of $25,000 due next month.

The company is having trouble due to the freeze on credit, Sea Gate's Senior Vice President Charles Hornback wrote in a letter to the city manager.

"This is not only causing delays with building progress but obviously with payroll, construction payments, etc.," Hornback wrote, adding that the company "has every intention of finishing" the project.

The development includes 88 single-family units, 216 multi-family units and three commercial sites. The site work for the first residential phase and one of the commercial areas is nearly complete.

The city council has already granted two requests by Sea Gate for more time to hand over the down payment. The third request is one of a few items on a light agenda for the council's regular meeting slated for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at City Hall, 20 N. Main St.
